Today, at the "Xiaolan Talks: Technology as the Foundation, Light Guides the Future" Forum held during the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE), Zhang Dongsheng, Technology Department Manager of Guangdong Samplex Technology Group Co., Ltd., was invited to the event. He delivered a thought-provoking presentation on why traditional LED displays are increasingly failing to meet real-world application demands, and how Samplex is breaking the industry deadlock with its "Cicada Wing" wallpaper display.
Manager Zhang noted that conventional large-format LED displays are commonly plagued by pain points including high energy consumption, bulky build, cumbersome installation and retrofitting, and safety risks from mixed high- and low-voltage circuits. These shortcomings make them poorly suited to China’s dual carbon goals and the diverse needs of modern spatial scenarios, leaving the industry in urgent need of fundamental technological innovation to break the cycle of homogenization and involution.
To address these industry gaps, he showcased Samplex’s world’s first glass-mountable Cicada Wing low-voltage wallpaper display. Powered by self-developed Alpha integrated driver chips, the product eliminates traditional transceiver cards and adopts an isolated 24V low-voltage power supply design. This architecture eliminates electromagnetic interference, removes electric leakage hazards, and delivers a dramatic reduction in unit power consumption with outstanding energy efficiency. Built with aerospace-grade lightweight materials and the proprietary Brilliant packaging process, the display panel measures ≤9.9mm thick and weighs only 3kg per square meter — a weight reduction of over 70% — while also offering improved protection performance and longer service life.
The product’s most groundbreaking feature is its cabinet-free, bracket-free mounting system. It can be applied directly to glass, ceramic tile, aluminum panels and other wall surfaces, with no structural wall modifications required and no hot work or noise during construction. This significantly cuts labor and space costs, making it highly adaptable to a wide range of scenarios including retail window displays, high-end residential interiors and smart command centers.
Manager Zhang concluded that this represents far more than a product upgrade: it is an industry evolution driven by on-the-ground pain points, which in turn compels technological advancement. Only when displays truly become "invisible" can the full value of a space be unlocked.
